Jeremiah is a hard book for modern readers to understand (like many of the Israelite prophetic books). What are some of the factors that contribute to this difficulty, and how can modern readers understand the book in its own context while also making application for ourselves?

As we enter into a new section of Israelite history in our journey through the Bible, I thought it might be helpful to have provide a map and a timeline of the Divided Kingdom. Next week I will provide several timelines connected to the prophets of Israel.
The story of Abimelech in Judges 9 is really the conclusion to Gideon’s story, and brings up many of the themes we have seen throughout our study of Judges: foreshadowing against kings, the rule of God versus the rule of men, and the tension between boldness and arrogance, insecurity and humility.
