Saved by Faith

Paul’s letter to the Romans is the most “technical” of the epistles, in a sense. In it, Paul lays out a very detailed argument about righteousness, salvation, and faith that is just as applicable today as it ever was.

A Romans Conversation

Romans is one of the more technical letters of the New Testament, almost a scholarly treatise on the nature of righteousness, salvation, and faith. But, it’s also framed in the form of a conversation. Paul anticipates and answers questions and objections that the reader will inevitably make to his core arguments. Keeping the “conversation” of Romans in mind can help us appreciate its message better.

The Elementary Doctrine of Christ

Why Then The Law?

This is the second part of our consideration of how the modern Christian should relate to the law of Moses. If there is so much difference between the laws of Moses and Christ, why was the law of Moses given at all? If Christ was always the plan, why didn’t God just jump straight to Jesus?

Deeper into Justification

Justification is one of those big religious-sounding words that we don’t use very often outside of a church setting, but it is one of the most vital components of Christian growth. What does it mean to be justified, and how does it contribute to our continual growing?

Deeper in Jesus

Christian growth never happens independently from Christ. Why is that, and what attributes, qualities, and works of Jesus directly and indirectly contribute to our growth?

Instruction About Washings

The phrase “instruction about washings” in Hebrews 6 is very unusual, especially considering that the opening verses of Hebrews 6 are supposed to be about “elementary doctrine of Christ.” What is meant by “washings,” and how is it an elementary doctrine?
